Midlife, Maxed Out?

Brian's Story

Brian has been running a small business for 25 years. While he cherishes the many freedoms business ownership affords him, he finds it increasingly challenging to manage payroll and earn a living due to rising taxes and bureaucratic loopholes.

We met because Brian had been exhausted for a long time. He wondered what life might be like as an employee, free from the burdens and stresses of business ownership.

He had a calling that he had never discussed with anyone, not even his wife. The idea of running for mayor in his growing community seemed too out of reach, yet it kept pervading his thoughts.

Brian grew up in a large, hardworking family that operated a small business, with all his siblings living nearby and maintaining close bonds. I noted that the families of his siblings and their friends would ensure robust voter support.

He deeply cares about the future of small business owners, as well as his province, country, and family. Those concerns will form the building blocks of a story that touches people’s hearts.

With over two decades serving the local community and managing staff, Brian has all the qualifications he requires. He just needs to consult with his family, as they would be his teammates given the high visibility of the role he aspires to.

It would also be prudent for him to meet with the current mayor to find out the good, the bad, and the ugly of this public service position.

We all have more questions than answers. But when you know deep down what you want to do next, the resources and support you need may already be in place.
